김시하는 삶을 구성하는 사회의 괴리와 분열, 불합리, 억압과 폭력, 현실과 이상의 간극 사이의 여러 심리적 요소들을 설치와 조형 작품으로 제작하고 스토리를 만들어 일종의 “무대-시적풍경”을 만드는 작업을 한다. 나무, 꽃과 박제 등 자연물과 스텐, 철과 같은 인공 소재부터 설치, 사진 등 복합적 매체를 다루고 있으며, 최근에는 조각의 영역을 접목한 전통방식을 비롯해 영상, 사진, 텍스트 등 다양한 매체를 활용한 작품을 하고 있다. <Burn>(씨알 콜렉티브, 서울, 2020), <시각정원-열대야 프로젝트>(문화역 284, 서울, 2014), <The Twinkle of Time>(송은아트큐브, 서울, 2010) 등의 개인전을 가졌으며 <8 Artists Voyage>(성남아트센터 큐브미술관, 2020), <나 자신의 노래>(사비나미술관, 서울, 2020) 등의 단체전에 참여했다.

Siha Kim creates a “stage-poetic landscape” by making installations and sculptural works and creating stories by various psychological elements between the gap and division of society that constitute life, irrationality, oppression and violence, as well as the gap between reality and ideals. She works with natural objects such as trees, flowers and stuffed animals, and artificial materials such as stainless steel and iron, by using various media such as installation and photography. Recent solo exhibitions include <Burn>(CR Collective, Seoul, 2020), <Visual Garden-Tropical Night>(Culture Station Seoul 284, Seoul, 2014), <The Twinkle of Time>(Songeun Art Cube, Seoul, 2010). Recent group exhibitions include <8 Artists Voyage>(Seongnam Cube Art Museum, Seongnam, Korea, 2020), <Song of Myself>(Savina Museum, Seoul, 2020).

당신의 안녕을 묻는 우리의 시선

작가에게 ‘집’이라는 공간은 자신이 발 딛고 있는 환경과 자연, 시간 이 모든 것을 뜻하기에 화려함도 없고 다소 심심하지만, 감각을 좀 더 예민하게 세울 수 있는 정적인 공간이다. 이 작품은 땅을 파고 그 안에 앉아 땅의 기운을 느끼는 일, 그리고 일상적 높이에서 지면 아래로 낮아지는 시선의 변화, 외부의 어느 쪽에서는 전혀 보이지 않는 경험 등 생태학적 혹은 인류학적 방식으로 자연을 관찰하는 경험을 할 수 있도록 제작되었다. 지면 아래로 텅 빈 공간은 스스로 안전할 수 있는 공간이면서 우리 외부의 환경이 안녕한지 살필 수 있는 공간이다. 작품 제목 <당신의 안녕을 묻는 우리의 시선>은 ‘당신’과 ‘우리’ 두 글자를 바꾸어 물을 수도 있다. 상호작용으로 긴밀하게 관계를 맺고 살아가는 서로에 대한 배려와 보호, 서로의 안녕을 바란다는 메시지를 담고 있다.

The artist understands ‘home’ as a concept that includes everything from surrounding environments and nature to time. Therefore, to the artist, home is a place somewhat plain and maybe even boring; it is a place of stillness in which your senses become more alert. <Our Eyes Asking for Your Wellness> was designed to offer viewers an experience of observing nature in an ecological or anthropological way by digging a hole in the ground, taking a seat inside the hole to feel the energy of the Earth, going through the change of perspective from above to below the surface, having certain sides completely blocked out when seen from the outside and so on. The empty underground space is a space where you can be safe by yourself and also a space in which you may check whether everything is safe and sound outside. The title can also be posed as a question by switching ‘Your’ and ‘Our’. Overall, the underlying message is that we all live in intimate interaction with each other, and we should be considerate to care for one another.
