김영우는 영남대학교 조형대학에서 학사 과정을, 일본 돗토리 대학원 공예분야에서 석사 과정을 마쳤다. 일본갤러리 안도(2002)에서 개인전을 가졌으며 한국에서는 디벤처 자동차 디자이너, 태양기전 핸드폰 디자이너, 극동 자동화 시스템 디자이너로 활동했다. 울산 남구 문화원과 울산 남구 청소년 진로 직업 체험 센터에서 목공예 강사를 역임하고, 현재 울산에서 아뜰리에 갤러리 그린을 운영하며 울산미술협회 공예 디자인 분과 회원으로 활발히 활동하고 있다.

Kim Young Woo completed his bachelor’s degree at Yeungnam University’s College of Art and Design and his master’s degree in crafts at Tottori University in Japan. He held a solo exhibition at (Andoh Gallery, Tottori, 2002), and he worked as a designer for D-Ventures, a solar cell phone design, and an automation system design in Korea. He served as a woodcraft instructor at the Ulsan Nam-gu Cultural Center and the Ulsan Nam-gu Youth Career Experience Center. He currently runs Atelier Gallery Green in Ulsan, and is also actively working as a member of the craft design division of the Ulsan Art Association.

목공예가, 디자이너로 활동해 온 작가는 나무를 모든 자연이 돌아갈 수 있는 집, 서식처로 해석하고 누구나 ‘안식’할 수 있는 공간을 만들었다. 나무는 많은 생명체의 서식지로 존재하며 비가 오면 비를 피할 수 있고 햇볕이 따가우면 그늘에서 쉬게 해주며, 대지의 수분을 지켜내고 파릇파릇한 생명이 가능한 세상으로 만들어낸다. 마치 부모가 자식을 보듬어 키워가듯 나무는 우리가 살 수 있는 터전을 마련해 주고 모든 생명의 커다란 집이 된다.

The artist, having a background in woodcraft and design, saw within the tree a home and habitat where all of nature could return to, and conceived a space of ‘rest’. The tree is home to countless living things, providing shelter from the rain and shades to escape the sunlight. It is responsible for helping soil retain moisture and also contributes to building a world rich with life. Quite like a parent caring for their child, trees offer us a place of living, eventually growing into a one large home for all life on Earth.
