프랑스어로 ‘갑자기’를 의미하는 ‘뚜따꿉(Tout à coup)’은 권재현, 서정배 두 사람의 듀오(duo)가 함께 프로젝트를실행하기 위해 만들어졌다. 청주시립대청호미술관의 2020년 기획전 <움직이는 물>을 시작으로 울산 태화강국제설치미술제가 듀오로 참여하는 두 번째 참여전이다.

‘Tout à coup’, which means ‘suddenly’ in French, was created as a duo of SEO Jeong-Bae and Jae-hyunKwon to participate in the project. TEAF21 will be their second exhibition to work as a duo, starting with <Moving Water>(Daecheongho Museum of Art, Cheongju, Korea, 2020).

집은 ‘행복’한 곳이어야 한다고 우리는 생각한다. ‘행복’은 추상적인 것으로 언제나 존재할 수 있지만, 그 추상성이 갖는 불분명한 실체 때문에 우리는 ‘행복하기 위해’ 애쓰며 사는 것인지도 모른다. 집은 부의 상징이 되기도 한다. 집의 크기와 위치, 자신의 소유 여부에는 많은 의미들이 얽혀 있다. <즐거운 나의 집>은 안과 밖이 투명하게 보이는 집이다. 불완전하고 불분명한 경계로 이루어진 <즐거운 나의 집>은 소유자가 생각하기에 따라서 어디가 되든지, 어떤 조건이든지 ‘자신의 집’이 될 수 있다는 것을 의미한다. 사유를 하고, 앞날을 꿈꾸기도 하며, 편안한 곳이지만 불안하기도 한 곳. 집은 이 모든 것을 생각할 수 있는 공간인 개인의 ‘작은 우주’이다. 입구에 달린 ‘My Sweet Home’ LED간판은 보는 이에 따라서 ‘즐거운 나의 집’이 될 수도 그와 다른 역설의 의미가 될 수도 있다는 것을 표현하고 있다.

We tend to believe that a home must be a place of ‘happiness’. Although, while ‘happiness’ is an abstract state of being that’s possibly always around us, its abstract and ambiguous nature pushes us to live a life that ‘strives to be happy’. Where you live can sometimes also represent your economic status; its size, as well as the form of ownership, can speak quite a lot about you. <My Sweet Home> is a house with transparent acrylic walls. This ‘home’, which is made up of imperfect and unclear boundaries, means that it can be anyone’s home, no matter where it shall be, under no matter of circumstances. A place to think, a place to dream, a place to feel comfort, but to feel anxiety at the same time – A home is a space of manifesting all possible things. A home is a ‘small universe’ to every person. The LED sign that says ‘My Sweet Home’ hung over the entrance to this invisible yet real house asks us about the true meaning of happiness.
